This week in 2000 seems to have parallels with this week in 2020 (we'll get to this current week soon, just hold tight), we have new songs aplenty and some interesting moves up and down the chart but the biggest story of the week is that we have a new number one, yes, "I Try" by Macy Gray has been dethroned by Australian rock band Killing Heidi and their second single "Mascara". Now "Mascara" looks to have a little bit behind it unlike "I Try" so we'll have to see next week.
"I Try" slipped back to number two and is coming under threat from Len's "Steal My Sunshine" which is really starting to look like a number one in the making as it roared up two places to number three.
It pushed past "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eiffel 65 down two places to number four and "Don't Call Me Baby" by Madison Avenue down one to number five.
M2M remain steady at number six with "Don't SayYou Love Me" as does Alice Deejay at number seven with "Better Off Alone"
The Bloodhound Gang are continuing to make inroads into the top ten moving up two places to number eight with "The Bad Touch".
There are two songs new to the top ten this week, the first of those being "What a Girl Wants" by Christina Aguilera rising six places to number nine and finally rising four places to number ten is S Club 7 landing their second top ten hit with "S Club Party" at number ten.
Gains
The biggest gains of the week came for Enrique Iglesias with "Rhythm Divine" up from 46 to 3,7 this week off its debut while Savage Garden are up nine places to 29 with "I Knew I Loved You"
William Orbit's "Barber's Adagio for Strings" is up to 32 from 39.
Re - Entries
Just the one re-entry this week with "Are You Ready" by Jackie and BZ back at number 50.
Losers
Couple of big losers this week with Britney Spears "(You Drive Me) Crazy)" down ten to 40 while"Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica feat. Michael Kamen conducting the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra,"Dear Lie" by TLC and "Eternal Flame" by Human Nature also fell ten places to 43, 45 and 46 respectively.
S Club 7's previous top ten hit "Bring it All Back" dropped nine places to 28 this week.
New Entries
The highest new entry of the week comes from English singer song writer with her second single "Pray" in at number 12.
Steps are in at number 21 with "Say You'll be Mine/Better the Devil You Know".. The latter song being a Kylie Minogue cover (don't get excited now, it's not that good).
Latino heartthrob Marc Anthony lands at 41 with "I Need to Know" and finally American punk rockers Blink 182 are in at 44 with "All The Small Things" (the video of that song is a hilarious piss take of the video for the Backstreet Boys hit in 1999 "I Want it that Way")

ARIA Singles top ten/ Chart Review: Monday 20th January. Tones and I's run at number one may soon be over
Last week I said there was a whiff of change in the air and honestly, this week's chart only confirms that change is in the air. "Dance Monkey" by Tones and I held on to number one for a twenty fourth week but with its sales and streaming slipping hard, it will only keep the number one for a twenty fifth week on the smell of a oily rag.
The most likely scenario is that The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" takes number one as it is strong on both sales and streaming right now and doing markedly better than those around him.
What is also vulnerable is Dua Lipa's "Don't Start now" which dropped to number three as it bled on sales and streaming this week so it's not really a shot at getting number one.
What I didn't expect was the horrific four place rise of "Yummy" by Justin Bieber but I expect this o fall off hard next week as sales have collapsed and its fallen on streaming. Good.
"Circles" by Post Malone continues to stick around remaining at number five this week due to the weakness of "Roxanne" by Arizona Zervas which fell two places to number six.
We have a new arrival to the top ten that being the current US number one "The Box" by Roddy Ricch which rose eleven places to number seven, it's got good streaming but that's all its got right now as sales aren't matching the streaming right now much like "Roxanne" in the later half of last year.
"Memories" by Maroon 5 seems to be fading away as it dropped two places to number eight while "RIde It" by Regard slipped two places to number nine...we might see some new blood in the top ten next week.
Finally Lizzo returns to the top ten with "Good as Hell" up one place to number ten
Gains
Brockhampton's rise continues with "Sugar" up from from 37 to 21. This song pretty damn good so am glad to see it rising.
"Lose You to Love" by Selena Gomez is up six to 20 because her album "Rare" was released last week.
Strangely enough "Purple Hat" by Sofi Tukker rose eight places to 36. Why?
Losers
Halsey's "Graveyard" dropped 12 places to 50 and was the biggest loser for the week but this song will likely rebound and there's more Halsey to talk about in the new arrivals.
"Sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee wilted seven places to 40 while "10,000 Hours" by Dan and Shay feat. Justin Bieber plunged six to 30.
Drop outs

All this meant M2M's "Don't Say You Love Me" got pushed back two places to number six this week as momentum from the Pokemon movie dries up for this song.
"Better Off Alone" by Alice Deejay enjoys a one place rise to number seven pushing past "Will 2K" by Will Smith which dropped two places to number eight and "Waiting for Tonight" by Jennifer Lopez which slipped two places to number nine.
Finally wrapping up the top ten is Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch" which climbed three to number ten as they do it like they do on the Discovery Channel.

ARIA Singles top ten/ Chart Review: 13th January. Is Dance Monkey is about to be dethroned for good?
So all signs point toward there being a new number one sooner rather than later and that new number one may not even come from our current top ten speaking of which "Dance Monkey" by Tones and I held onto number one for a twentytbird week...yes, its sales are still very good but streaming is showing sudden signs of slowing down going forward and that isn't a good sign
I'd say it's good news for "Don't Start Now" by Dua Lipa which remains at number two however it's started to slip on sales, its really holding on by virtue of streaming, it managed to stave off the big challenge of one of the big movers within the top ten which is "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd, this song is gaining traction on sales and streaming so it's one to watch over the next few weeks.
That pushed "Roxanne" by Arizona Zervas back to number four, its only real presence is on streaming and it's looking tenuous there for it, same could be said for "Circles" by Post Malone which remained at number five this week despite losing ground on sales and on streaming.
Maroon 5 fell two places to number six with "Memories" (Good) while "Ride It" by Regard dropped back to number seven.
At number eight is the highest debut of the week which is *sigh* unfortunately "Yummy" by Justin Bieber. Now I am expecting this song to fall off as the well deserved backlash against this song continues.

Saturday Song Review: What do you get when you mix Avril with Sigrid? Torine's "Make U Cry"!
This is a bit of a weird choice especially when it's considered Khalid, Halsey, Selena Gomez etc all dropped new music on Friday but I wanted to write about something I actively liked especially after the hyper negativity of the debut edition of this series and while the song I am going to write about today isn't on the the New Music Friday AU and NZ Spotify playlist, it was one I felt I just had to talk about especially given who she reminds me of.
So who is Torine? She's an Norwegian EDM/pop act that broke on to the scene last year with "Dancing In My Sleep" in Norway and has worked with Alan Walker, a DJ/producer who has been hugely successful across Europe with "Make U Cry" being the third song Torine has released.
Okay, if you can imagine taking Avril Lavigne's delivery on some of her slower songs and Sigrid's enchanting vocals then Torine would fit somewhere in the middle, Torine really does sound like Avril on the verses here.
As for "Make U Cry" as a song? It's got some solid guitar with the very European esque electronic production, it's really not bad and while the lyrics are probably the only area of the song that are a bit of an issue (in that they feel as though they don't really scratch the surface of the issues here) but for a short pop song, it's effective, I really enjoyed this and would take whatever Torine has in store for us over ehatever The Chainsmokers did with that god awful "The Reaper" song with Amy Shark.
So yeah check out "Make U Cry" by Torine. Looking forward to hearing more.

ARIA Singles Top Ten/Chart Review: 6th January 2020
So all the Christmas songs left and what we have is kind of interesting plus with Justin Bieber's terrible new song showing up next week, this week kind of felt like it was back to normal and by back to normal, I mean "Dance Monkey" by Tones and I back at number one for a 22nd week.
Dua Lipa is back at number two with "Don't Start Now", I am not certain if it can go number one, needs sales and streaming to pick up but the fact that these two songs are stalling the momentum of "Roxanne" by Arizona Zervas is really a good thing because the only thing holding up "Roxanne" right now is streaming, it's really behind on sales right now.
J'd say it's vulnerable to "Memories" by Maroon 5 which returned to number four but that spent the week also bleeding on streaming even as its sales hold up well. "Circles" by Post Malone is also showing signs of weakness as well as it jumped back up to number five, it slipped on streaming and sales aren't there for it.
Same could be said of "Ride It" by Regard which climbed back to number six but again this song is n shaky footing and is vulnerable to "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd which looks as though it finally has some momentum behind it at number seven, this song is a monster on sales and is catching up on streaming, fully expect this to be top five at next chart update.
Tones and I's second song in the top ten 'Never Seen the Rain" climbed back to number eight on good sales because streaming is messy at this point.
Same could be said for "Good as Hell" by Lizzo which came back at number 9 and "Adore You" by Harry Styles which returned to number 10.

"Castles" by Freya Ridings got a boost from 37 to 29 this week while "Post Malone" by Sam Feldt feat Rani jumped from 41 to 33 and 'Trampoline" jumped nine places to 35 for SHAED.
Re- entries
A couple of re-entries this week with the best of those being 'How Do You Sleep?" by Sam Smith at 47, "Yellow Hearts" by Ant Saunders at 48 and "Teeth" by 5 Seconds of Summer at 49.
Losses
Unsurprisingly the big loss came for Juice WRLD's 2018 hit "Lucid Dreams" as it plummeted 20 places to 22. "Own It" by Stormzy feat. Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy dropped six places to 46, The Weeknd also dropped six places to 36 with "Heartless" (although I think people have realized "Blinding Lights" is the better of the two new songs The Weeknd released).
The other real big loser was "Watermelon Sugar" by Harry Styles which fell eleven places to 23.
Drop Outs
All the Christmas music fell off the chart this week so apart from that we also unfortunately lost "Lover" by Taylor Swift.
It wasn't a good week for Harry Styles with his lead single 'Lights Up" along with album tracks "Falling" and "Golden" making their exits along with "Bandit" by Juice WRLD and Young Boy Never Broke Again.
New Entries
So we got five new songs on the chart this week with the biggest coming from New Zealand's Benee with "Glitter" at 34, this song seems to have a bit of traction on streaming so we'll see what happens especially if sales start to match it.
Riton finally hits the chart with "Turn Me On" feat. Oliver Heldens and Vula, a track that samples Yazoo's famous melody on 80s smash hit "Don't Go".
A song that was big in the UK last year has finally reached the Australian chart that being "Sorry" by Joel Corry at 40.
Don Toliver's "No Idea" is in at 43 and finally 'Purple Hat" by Sofi Tukker at 50
I like the look of the top ten at the moment, its not perfect (still two pretty awful songs in the top five), anyway expecting Justin Bieber to enter the chart along with a couple of bushfire relief appeal songs so we'll see what happens when the chart updates on Saturday at 5pm
Dua Lipa is back at number two with "Don't Start Now", I am not certain if it can go number one, needs sales and streaming to pick up but the fact that these two songs are stalling the momentum of "Roxanne" by Arizona Zervas is really a good thing because the only thing holding up "Roxanne" right now is streaming, it's really behind on sales right now.
J'd say it's vulnerable to "Memories" by Maroon 5 which returned to number four but that spent the week also bleeding on streaming even as its sales hold up well. "Circles" by Post Malone is also showing signs of weakness as well as it jumped back up to number five, it slipped on streaming and sales aren't there for it.
Same could be said of "Ride It" by Regard which climbed back to number six but again this song is n shaky footing and is vulnerable to "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd which looks as though it finally has some momentum behind it at number seven, this song is a monster on sales and is catching up on streaming, fully expect this to be top five at next chart update.
Tones and I's second song in the top ten 'Never Seen the Rain" climbed back to number eight on good sales because streaming is messy at this point.
Same could be said for "Good as Hell" by Lizzo which came back at number 9 and "Adore You" by Harry Styles which returned to number 10.
Gains
The biggest gain this week came from Travis Scott's "Highest in the Room" which climbed from 36 to 15 probably off the release of JACKBOYS album.
"Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X climbs 11 places to 16 and strangely "My Oh My" by Camila Cabello and DaBaby rose eleven places to 25.
