This week can best be described as quiet what with only one new entry and one leaving, it was one of those weeks of relative calm on the chart at least until the fall out from the ARIA awards strikes over the next week and that is coming.
What it did mean is that the top ten didn't change all that much, "Thank U, Next" by Ariana Grande holds onto number one for another week and really given it still leads on streaming, I'd be surprised if it lost number one for awhile.
"Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper sits steady at number two as does "Without Me" by Halsey at number three.
Am expecting "Shotgun" by George Ezra which remained at number four this week to get a rebound off the back of Ezra's performance the ARIAs.
"Happier" by Marshmello and Bastille, "Sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee and "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid remain at 5, 6, and 7 respectively.
The only change to the top 10 is "Body" by Loud Luxury feat. Brando jumping one place to number 8 pushing "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis to number 9 but again like "Shotgun", "Be Alright" will likely rebound off the back of Lewis performing the song last night.
At number 10 is Billie Eilish's "When the Party's Over" to wrap up the top ten.
Gains
Pink had the biggest gain this week with her re-imagined version of "A Million Dreams jumping 20 places to 27.
Ava Max's break out hit "Sweet But Psycho" jumped from 28 to 22, this song has got momentum now so I wouldn't be surprised to see this in the top ten before the year is out.
Imagine Dragons song "Bad Liar" jumped from 29 from 35 which can be explained as being due to the album. Speaking of albums being responsible, the continually underwhelming "Woman Like Me" by Little Mix feat. Nicki Minaj went up four places to 26.
Lukas Graham's rather awkward "Love Someone" jumped 6 places to 31.
The absolute garbage that is "Mo Bamba" by Sheck Wes is somehow breaking into the top 40 by jumping up to 39 from 42.
In better news, "Lovely" by Billie Eilish and Khalid jumped to 40 upon its return and kind of makes sense given Eilish has a top ten hit right now and people are wanting to see what else she has done. (Check out "Bellyache")
Losers
I am fine with most of our big losers, the biggest being "Falling Down" by Lil Peep and XXXtentacion down ten to 44 while XXXtentacion's "Bad!" fell hard off it's debut last week (good) to 38
Kanye and Lil Pump's 'I Love it" dropped to 32. Kanye's featured on a new 6ix9ine song with Nicki Minaj....just joy...not.
Unfortunately it wasn't all good news though with the good "Electricity" by Silk City feat. Dua Lipa down to 49 and the decent "I'll Never Love again" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Coooper down to 35.
Drop Outs
Only one song dropped out however I kind of expect to see it back soon, that drop out was "Breathin'" by Ariana Grande. I am not sure if it will make the year end list but we'll see.
New Entries
Only one new entry to speak of this week with that being "Ruin My Life" by Zara Larsson which enterred at number 42.
So that wraps up a rather quiet week on the ARIA singles chart. I am expecting a shake up to the top ten with the ARIAs though. Rita Ora's "Let You Love Me" is in prime position for a run at the top ten but we'll have to wait til Saturday 5pm to find out if it does get there.

ARIA Chart top 20 ranked: Spring 2018.
So this is a new thing I am going to be doing toward the end of each season which means four times a year, I am goimg to rank the ARIA chart top 20. Mainly doing it to check the overall health of the chart and that there are some genuinely awesome songs within the top 20.
How the ranking works is that there are 6 levels that range from 0/5 being absolute shit to 5/5 being excellent, these will turn into points and make a total score for the ARIA singles top 20 and yeah it may provide hints as to what might make my year end best and worst hits lists of the year.
So with that explained, let's begin at the bottom of the barrel and clean up the absolute crap first off.
Absolute Shit (0/5)
20. “Arms Around You” by XXXtentacion, feat. Lil Pump, Maluma and Swae Lee (Currently: 17)
This song is a slice of atrocious grave robbery which I strongly object to. Hate the music industry is attempting to continually make money out of somebody who wasn’t a good person or wrote decent music. This song is trash anyway.
19. “Sicko Mode” by Travis Scott feat. Drake. (Currently: 16)
Here because it’s the worst song off “ASTROWORLD” and I am so god damn tired of Drake
Bad (1/5)
18. “In My Mind” by Dynoro (Currently: 13)
I know this song has been a major hit around the world especially in Europe, but I cannot understand or see the appeal of it, the production and the vocals are just so ridiculously grating and horrible, its close to unlistenable.
17. “This Feeling” by The Chainsmokers feat. Kelsea Ballerini (Currently: 20)
Can we just stop the practice of female country artists jumping in the studio with z-grade producers like The Chainsmokers to produce garbage like this song? Kelsea Ballerini, you are so much better than this crap
16. “Happier” by Marshmello and Bastille (Currently: 5)
Ehh. This song is a confused mess and Bastille doesn’t sound good over Marshmello’s EDM beat.
Mediocre (2/5)
15. “Without Me” by Halsey (Currently: 3)
This song lacks balance eg: what did the guy (presumably G-Eazy do for her), its all about Halsey taking credit for G-Eazy’s career and also the beat lacks anything substantial to make this relationship melodrama that Halsey regularly indulges in interesting. It’s not bad by any stretch…just painfully mediocre.
14. “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee (Currently: 6)
I want to like this because of the melody and Post Malone’s cadence isn’t bad per se but the fact this is about being an arsehole to a woman kind of puts me off so yeah, I guess it fits in with the mediocre crew.
13. “Thank U, Next” by Ariana Grande (Currently: 1)
Oh wow, this song is pulling from Mariah Carey hard and I got to be honest I am not a fan of this at all. I get why she’s released and all of that but yeah not a fan at all especially when she has done better this year with “No Tears Left to Cry”.
12. “Body” by Loud Luxury (Currently: 9)
This song annoys me less than the others that I consider to be mediocre largely however that does change how the vocals just go that extra mile to be irritating and it does feel like there’s not a lot of depth to the song.
Decent (3/5)
11. “Better” by Khalid (Currently: 11)
This has been a year where I have come to really like Khalid while I wouldn’t say “Better” is the best song on the “Suncity EP”, there’s still plenty to like about the song with it’s somewhat melancholic R ‘n’ B production and Khalid’s vocals are almost way too relaxing.
10. “Be Alright” by Dean Lewis
This song has faded one me hard in recent weeks, it’s still a good song but some of the lyrics and even the vocal tone of the song feels off in a way that I never actually picked up on when I was head over for the song.
9. “Let You Love Me” by Rita Ora (Currently: 14)
Am in two minds as to whether I actually like this song or not. Rita Ora has this habit of songs that I like but never ever really stick with me or that stick with me but are downright atrocious. Ehh, it’s in the decent category for now.
8. “Always Remember Us This Way” by Lady Gaga (Currently: 15)
I got to be honest here, this is a song I don’t remember all that much from having listened to the A Star is Born soundtrack, its still good and Lady Gaga just kills vocally.
Good (4/5)
7. “When The Party is Over” by Billie Eilish (Currently: 10)
I can’t lie, it’s been kind of amusing watching everyone fawn over Billie Eilish this year when she was dropping fantastic songs last year but yeah while this song doesn’t quite reach my love of “Bellyache” or “Lovely” (feat. Khalid), this is still a good song.
6. “Eastside” by Benny Blanco feat Halsey and Khalid
My mind hasn’t changed on this song, I still really think it’s a good song that doesn’t quite reach great given the lack of chemistry between Halsey and Khalid.
5. “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper (Currently: 2)
This song is sooo close to being a great song to me, I can’t explain why I merely think it’s just good at the moment but it’s close to great. Consider this my 4.5
Excellent (5/5)
4. “Shotgun” by George Ezra (Currently: 3)
It’s the sort of cheery pop song that just kind makes me smile, we could do with some more pop in this vein. I get why some don’t like it but for me, I really dig the hell out of it and I am glad it went number one.
3. “Promises” by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith (Currently: 12)
This is a bit of a surprise considering I have mixed feelings on both but Sam Smith sounds amazing on this song especially with Calvin Harris’s production and while the Jessie Reyez giggle and “tonight” are annoying to a degree, it’s not quite enough to stop me loving this song
2. “Youngblood” by 5 Seconds of Summer (Currently: 19)
Thank goodness, this didn’t leave the top 20 last week, I still love this song, it’s got plenty of momentum and energy. I do wish sometimes that the chorus had a big rock guitar riff but the money isn’t in rock music, I get it but even with that it doesn’t stop me enjoying a pretty kick ass song.
1. 1. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen (Currently: 18)
Yeah, I would have been in trouble if this wasn’t number one but I’ll make it short and sweet, this song is a rock classic. Happy to see it back on the ARIA singles chart even if it’s because of the Freddie Mercury biopic.
Score: 55/100
Comment: Better than I expected. As I have said I have been reasonably happy with how things have gone on the ARIA charts this year but worrying that there’s still a lot of awful to mediocre songs on the chart right now.

ARIA Singles Chart/Chart Review: 19th November: Ariana takes number one as Queen arrives in the top 20
Well as it turned out it was only a matter of time as we have a new number one and we have a couple of surprises one of which oddly looks like sticking around awhile.
So let's get to the top ten where we find "Thank U, Next" has taken the number one spot giving Ariana Grande her second number one in Australia this year and of her career. "Thank U. Next" is the 12th single to hit number one in Australia this year.
"Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper remains right behind it at number two and still remains a chance of reaching number one.
"Without Me" by Halsey climbed one place to number three but she needs digital sales to get on board with her however it did push back former chart topper "Shotgun" by George Ezra to number four.
"Happier" by Marshmello and Bastille spends another week at number 5.
What is starting to show signs of being a possible number one is "Sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee which jumped one place to number six, it's doing well on streaming so it wouldn't surprise me if it got to the top 2 or 3.
"Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid was pushed back to number seven but its a song that is starting to fade naturally.
The next two songs stayed where they are that being "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis at number 8 and "Body" by Loud Luxury at number 9.
Billie Eilish returns to the top ten at number 10 with "When the Party's Over" - this song has grown on me a lot in recent weeks.
Gainers

ARIA Singles top ten/Chart Review: November 12th. Ariana arrives as a slew of songs return
Well this week did surprise me because we got a whole slew of songs returning down, only two new entries and honestly what happened at the very top also surprised me so let's get stuck into that top ten, shall we?
Much to my surprise, "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper held onto number one due to digital sales being pretty darn excellent.
It's nearest challenger is the title track of Ariana Grande's fifth album "Thank U Next" at number two, now this song is doing very well on streaming but it isn't matching "Shallow" for digital sales dominance so if streaming falls away, I am not sure this song is a player unless those sales start picking up.
That leaves "Shotgun" by George Ezra down a place at number three in a tight spot, it'd still be a challenger for number one if it's streaming hadn't fallen away hard recently.
Streaming is also the same problem for Halsey's "Without Me" which rose number four, sure it's digital sales are okay but I am not sure it's going to get much higher than number four.
"Happier" by Marshmello and Bastille is finally starting to show signs of exiting the top ten as it slipped two places to number 5 but it unfortunately also took Benny Blanco's "Eastside" featuring Khalid and Halsey down with it. "Eastside" slipping two to six.
Staying steady this week is "Sunflower" by :Post Malone and Swae Lee at number seven, a song that I expect to see stick around in the top ten for awhile.
All the changes saw Dean Lewis's "Be Alright" go down two places to number 8, it's on its slow way out of the chart.

The bad news lies with XXXtentacion's "Bad" returning at 48.

ARIA Singles top ten/Chart Review: 5th November: "Shallow" remains number one but for how long?
Things are about to get interesting...well...not this week but with Ariana Grande's sales and streams for "Thank U, Next", I get the feeling things are about to heat up but as for this week well it was pretty much same old at least at the very top where "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper remains at number one for a second week, right now, it's a numbers game as to whether "Shallow' can hold off "Thank U Next" for number one, really it could all come down to how many people streamed "Thank U, Next" on a paid streaming account.
"Shotgun" by George Ezra remains at number two but I expect it to get pushed back hard, digital sales are excellent but really with it's streaming falling away and stronger songs behind it, this should really start to fall away hard.
At number three is "Happier" Marshmello and Bastille. Really, I don't see this song going much higher now. Same said for "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid at number four.
Speaking of Halsey, "Without Me" is our first mover this week as it jumps three places to number 5. It's weird to see a Halsey solo jaunt in the top 5 to be honest but she did push former chart topper "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis back to number six (it debuted at number 94 on the Hot 100 in the US this week).
Then we have the big story in our top ten with "Sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee jumping from 13 into the top ten at number 7. I suspect this song might be a top 5 hit in the making.
"Body" by Loud Luxury feat. Brando rose one place to number 8.
Khalid's "Better" fell three places to number 9 as the hype for his recent EP falls away.
While "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith also fell three places to number 10.
Time to look outside our top and look at the big movers of the week.

Well the biggest gainers were songs off the "A Star is Born" soundtrack with "I'll Never Love again" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper up to 15 from 32 and "Always Remember Us this Way" by Lady Gaga up six places to 12
Despite everything I said last week, "Woman Like Me" by Little Mix feat. Nicki Minaj got a boost off the back of the video to rebound to number 24.
"Better Now" by Post Malone is somehow rebounding back up the chart, it's back ato 28 from 31.
Another big mover that I am actually happy about is "1999" by Charli XCX and Troye Sivan u to 29 from 46. Yay!
Losers
The biggest loser this week was "Venom" by Eminem which plummeted to 43 from 25.

Only three drop outs this week and I am a bit uncertain as to whether any of them will make the year list, that being "Killshot" by Eminem, "Born to Be Yours" by Kygo and Imagine Dragons and "I'll be There" by Jess Glynne.
New Entries
Music grave robbery has the highest new debut this week with XXXtentacion teaming u with Lil Pump, Maluma and Swae Lee for "Arms Around You" at 14. Gets worse when it's been announced that a new XXXtentacion song is being released tomorrow.
The songs from the soundtrack of "The Greatest Showman" are being re-imagined so we've got Pink's "A Million Dreams" at 26.
Finally, the best of the new entries is Ava Max's European smash "Sweet But Psycho" at 46.
So that wraps up this week and yeah, all eyes are going to be on what happens with number one, it seems like a straight fight between Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper but who knows?
The chart for the week beginning 12th November is announced on Saturday afternoon at 5pm.
"Shotgun" by George Ezra remains at number two but I expect it to get pushed back hard, digital sales are excellent but really with it's streaming falling away and stronger songs behind it, this should really start to fall away hard.
At number three is "Happier" Marshmello and Bastille. Really, I don't see this song going much higher now. Same said for "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid at number four.
Speaking of Halsey, "Without Me" is our first mover this week as it jumps three places to number 5. It's weird to see a Halsey solo jaunt in the top 5 to be honest but she did push former chart topper "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis back to number six (it debuted at number 94 on the Hot 100 in the US this week).
Then we have the big story in our top ten with "Sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee jumping from 13 into the top ten at number 7. I suspect this song might be a top 5 hit in the making.
"Body" by Loud Luxury feat. Brando rose one place to number 8.
Khalid's "Better" fell three places to number 9 as the hype for his recent EP falls away.
While "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith also fell three places to number 10.
Time to look outside our top and look at the big movers of the week.
Gainers
Well the biggest gainers were songs off the "A Star is Born" soundtrack with "I'll Never Love again" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper up to 15 from 32 and "Always Remember Us this Way" by Lady Gaga up six places to 12
Despite everything I said last week, "Woman Like Me" by Little Mix feat. Nicki Minaj got a boost off the back of the video to rebound to number 24.
"Better Now" by Post Malone is somehow rebounding back up the chart, it's back ato 28 from 31.
Another big mover that I am actually happy about is "1999" by Charli XCX and Troye Sivan u to 29 from 46. Yay!
Losers
The biggest loser this week was "Venom" by Eminem which plummeted to 43 from 25.

ARIA Chart top ten/Chart Review: 29th October: Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper rocket to number one
Well, when I said last week that "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper was going to be a big mover up this week, I didn't ever think it would be the major disturbance to the top ten in the way it has and that's not counting another new arrival in the top ten which we'll get to in a moment.
So let's get to that top ten, shall we? We have a new number one this week that being "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper which jumped from 17 to take the number one spot., it's Cooper's first number one single and it's Lady Gaga's first since "Born This Way" topped the chart in 2011. It's long prospects at number one? Well, that's a vexed question because while it's ruling digital sales, streaming isn't quite there yet.
"Shallow"'s rise to number one meant that George Ezra's "Shotgun" got pushed back to number two, I fully expect this song to start to fall away because it's not as healthy across the board as some of it's rivals.
A contender for the number two slot is "Happier" by Marshmello and Bastille at number 3, this song is pretty healthy across the boardeven though there are questions over the quality of the song.
Benny Blanco has a new song coming on November 2nd with Calvin Harris but his current hit "Eastside" feat. Halsey and Khalid slipped two places to number four and really this song is in an awkward place.
Former chart topper "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis slipped one place to number five this week and is now under threat from Khalid's "Better" which jumped three places to number six although that's probably because he just released a new EP called "Suncity"
All this pushed "Promises" by Calvin Harris feat. Sam Smith down 2 places to number seven.
A song that is dominating on streaming at the moment for some reason is Halsey's "Without Me" which jumped two places to number eight

A LOT of songs lost ground this week so I am only going to go through the songs that lost big time, "Healing Hands" by Conrad Sewell was the biggest loser this week as it fell hard from 33 to 48 (that song should make the year end list so not worried).
"Killshot" by Eminem also took a tumble down to 45 as did "Lucid Dreams" by Juice WRLD down to 44 (Good, the latter will make the year end list because way too many thought we needed more Post Malone sound alikes on the chart)

"Fire/Reprisal" by Peking Duk burned down seven places to 38.

Finally the excellent song that I am so happy will make year end list is "Lovely" by Billie Eilish and Khalid.
New Entries
We got seven new entries, I already have mentioned the new entry for Billie Eilish at number 10 but at number 13, we have "Sunflower" by Post Malone feat. Swae Lee (I expect this song to jump into the top ten next week)

New Music Friday Review: 19th October. Zara Larsson, Major Lazer working with Tove Lo
Song: Ruin My Life

We start of this week's new music review with the lead off single for Zara Larsson's second album, a song I was kind of excited about however I can't be the only one feeling let down a little, right? For a start, Zara sounds totally devoid of any personality that made her a joy to listen to on previous hits and the chorus is just really painfully reptetive asking him to ruin her life and nights because she misses him. It's just a painfully mediocre song.

This is the second single from Billie Eilish's debut album s and it is a dark one at that which features Eilish, backing vocals and sparse piano and strings as Eilish sings about her anger at this person in life and needing space from said person where she just wishes they would leave her the hell alone. Its a good song but its definitely not as good as "Bellyache" or "you should see me in a crown".

This song is for the new Spiderman movie and while I don't mind the production, the grooves in this song are pretty awesome however the content of this song really does render this song kind of mediocre if I am to be honest and probably forgotten within weeks but given the streaming figures for this song, I'd not be surprised if it becomes a hit

Artist: Major Lazer, Tove Lo
So I am not a fan of either artist. Major Lazer's "Lean On" was one of the more annoying hits of recent times while I've never cared for Tove Lo so much like in the recent past with Calvin Harris working with Frank Ocean and Migos on "Slide" last year, could "Blow that Smoke" by Major Lazer feat. Tove Lo work for me? Well honestly I think it does in that it feels like the perfect song to jump around to by the pool, its not bad. Hopefully becomes a hit.
Rating: 8/10
So yeah "Blow That Smoke" is the best song of New Music Friday would love to see this become a hit.
