Its been quite the busy week with a whole slew of new entries and plenty of movement within the top ten including what appears to some challengers to our current number one which remains "Fastlove" by George Michael for a fourth week and really its kind of a surprise that it is still at number one given it's sales are starting to decline.
The challenge for number one is going to come from The Tony Rich Project's "Nobody Knows" which climbed two places to reach number two, the song has some solid momentum behind it but whether it can reach number one is the big question.
What might not be challenging for number one is "X-Files Theme (Version Dance)" by Triple X which dropped to number three as "Nobody Knows" muscled its way past.
The biggest mover within the top ten this week is Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me" which made a six place leap to number four as it has some serious radio right now - adult contemporary stations especially. I can see this making a play for number one.
Gina G arrives in the top 5 with "Ooh Aah....Just A Little Bit" up two places this week at number 5.
Max-A-Million stays where it is at number five with "Sexual Healing" while the result of all that sexual healing "Children" by Robert Miles falls two places to number seven.
Metallica slip five places to number eight with "Until It sleeps".
We have a new entry at number nine courtesy of the new Mission Impossible movie thanks to U2 members Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen with "Theme from Mission: Impossible"
Finally The Corrs return to the top ten at number ten with "Runaway".
Gains
Big gainers are pretty much cases of continued momentum with "Pepper" by the Butthole Surfers breaks te top 20 at number 19 up from 27 last week. Also breaking into the top 20 is "Just A Girl" by No Doubt which jumped a massive fifteen places to number 20.
Losses
Soundgarden fall ten places to 44 with "Pretty Noose" while top ten hits Boyzone's "Father and Son" drops thirteen places to 33, "Salvation" by The Cranberries is hit with a 12 place drop to 34. and "Anything" by 3T fell to 35 from 24 (although there's more 3T to talk about when we reach the new entries.)
New Entries
So the biggest new arrival this week was "The Theme from Mission: Impossible" by Adam Clyayton and Larry Mullen at number nine but there's a slew of new entries to burn through lower down the chart beginning at 39 with Oasis new single "Champagne Supernova",
I mentioned 3T's "Anhything" had suffered a fall earlier well here's their new single "24/7" debuting at number 42. I think I prefer "Anything" to this one if I am to be honest.
Everything But the Girl are back with "Walking Wounded" at number 46.
And if 1996 hasn't been the year of cover song than Australian dance act Eclipse have certainly shown that it is with their cover of the ABC's 1982 hit "The Look of Love" at number 48.
Finally arriving at number 49 is Madonna's remix of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" at number 49.
That wraps up this week. Will George Michael get a fifth week at number one or will the Tony Rich Project or Celine Dion take the number one spot away. Find out next week.
