So I was expecting this week to feel a little more chaotic than it does. sure we got a disturbance in the top five and the unfortunate arrival of one other song in the top ten but with more disturbances down the track (if you know what was released on Friday than you know what I am talking about) but let's get to the top ten where for a ninth week "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X reigns at number one and its mostly because of digital sales because the song is getting overtaken on streaming by other songs however it could well get a tenth week at the top because of the release of his EP.
That leaves "I Don't Care" by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber in an awkward place at number two because its getting overtaken on streaming too and probably going to fall back next week with Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's track set to impact the top ten next week.
New in at number three is the awkward "You Need to Calm Down" by Taylor Swift and yet again this feels as though it won't have the strength to stick around. Seems Taylor singles don't have the longevity they used to but we'll see going forward.
Taylor's arrival pushed "Bad Buy" by Billie Eilish back to number four and "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi back to number 5 (I actually am now thoroughly sick of the latter song) while "Cross Me" by Ed Sheeran feat. Chance the Rapper and PNB Rock also went back a place to number 6.
Unfortunately the Drake impact meant the biggest gainer tbis week is in our top ten that being "No Guidance" by Chris Brown feat. Drake up ten places to number 7. Seriously, can we not fall into the music industry's attempt to rehab Chris Brown's career, people?
Anyway, Shawn Mendes went back two places to number eight with "If I Can't Have you" while it's a similar story for "Never Really Over" by Katy Perry to number nine and also for "Sucker" by the onas Brothers rounding out the top ten at number ten.
Gains
So apart from Chris Brown and Drake, Tones and I contiues their break out year with "Dance Monkey" breaking into the top 40 at 37 up from 43 last week.
"Me!" by Taylor Swift feat. Brendon Urie got a small four place boost to 22 off the back of the release of "You Need to Calm Down".
"Piece of Your Heart" by Meduza feat. Goodboys continues to push toward the top ten jumping three places to number 11.
Guy Sebastian's "Choir" jumped 5 places to 33.
Losses
Biggest loss of the week belong to Birds of Tokyo which went from 31 to 39.
Halsey's "Nightmare" continues to be a non starter down from 27 to 34.
It's been big in the UK but "Vossi Bop" by Stormzy is slipping down in Australia, it dropped six places to 40.
Avicii's "SOS" (feat. Aloe Blacc) dropped from 9 to 16.while "3 Nights" by Dominic Fike dropped 5 places to 15.
Finally, "Better" by Khalid fell from 42 to 49 but that song pretty much has secured it's place on the year end list.
Drop Outs
Speaking of securing places on the year end list, former number one "7 Rings" by Ariana Grande is gone and will safely make the year end. It was followed out by 2018 chart topper "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis (fine with that song being gone if I am going to be honest).
I don't mind that "So Am I" by Ava Max is also gone as I never cared for it to begin with.
Two songs that debuted last week are also gone to round out the drop outs with "Beer never broke my Heart" by Luke Combs and "Haute" by Tyga feat. J. Balvin and Chris Brown. Good riddance to the latter.
New Entries
So beyond Taylor Swift, we got a couple of new entries outside the top ten with Drake teaming up with Rick Ross for "Money in the Grave" landing at number 12 - a song that I actually don't mind tbh. Hope it sticks around.
Flume has brought London Grammar on board for "Let You Know" debuting at number 31.
A song that has a few critics excited is Joji's "Sanctuary" which has entered at numbee 42.
Finally, a song that is probably going to be huge because it rides the coat tails of "Old Town Road" but is still quite the fun song is "The Git Up" by Blanco Brown at number 45. I do like it.
So that wraps up the week and with Shawn and Camila, Lil Nas X and maybe Nicki Minaj all likely to debut songs next week, it's going to be a busy one. The chart updates at 5pm AEST on Saturday.
