Well, I predicted it last week when I suggested that "How Bizarre" by OMC was looking shaky and low and behold, we've got ourselves a new number one that being "Fastlove" by George Michael, his second number one this year following "Jesus to a Child" earlier this year and really considering the tight groove to "Fastlove", its not a surprise that the song is a number one hit.
"How Bizarre" by OMC got pushed back to number two and is now under pressure from "Ironic" by Alanis Morrisette which rode the fact that "Jagged Little Pill" is at number one in Australia.
One of the biggest movers of the week comes from Triple X's single "The X-Files Theme (Dance version)" which jumped ten places to number four. Now I have no idea if this will hit numher one or not but given the success of the TV show starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who knows?
It pushed "Missing" by Everything But the Girl back to number five, "California Love" by 2pac and Dr Dre back to number 6 and "Father and Son" by Boyzone back to number 7. Expect to see these songs leave the top ten soon.
Max-A-Million's Marvin Gaye cover "Sexual Healing" went up two to number eight for some reason.
"Anything" by 3T went in the opposite direction down 2 places to number and to round out the top ten, it's "Spacemen" by Babylon Zoo at number 10.
Gains
So yeah am reasonably happy that "Nobody Knows" by The Tony Rich Project gained hard up from 27 to 12 whole Coolio also broke into the top 20 up 12 places to 16 with "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin New)".
The strange run of "Got It Goin' On" by Human Nature continues, as it jumped back inside the top 20 at 19 up from 32 lasr week. Really strange that one.
Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me" jumped from 34 to 21 while Eternal's "I am Blessed"is up from 36 to 23.
Gina G's "Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit" climbed from 40 to 25!. Watch for this to hit the top ten soon.
Losers
A lot of the losers this week were cases of previous hits running out of steam with "Peaches" by The Presidents of the United States of America's "Peaches" dropping hard from 29 to 47, "Power of a Woman" by Eternal down from 18 to 32 (new single has taken some attention away from this song), former number one "One Of Us" by Joan Osborne skids down 11 places to 26 while "Beautiful Life" by Ace of Base dropped ten places to 27.
Daniel Amalm's "Classical Gas" dropped ten places to 41 while Oasis's 'Don't Look back in Anger" continied it's downward momentum to 38.
New Entries
So the new entries are quieter this week with the biggest of the week going to The Pet Shop Boys with "Before" at number 25.
The Presidents of the United States of America are also back with a new single on the charts this time in the form of "Kitty" at number 31. The Cure are also back with a new single, its called "The 13th" which debuts at number 37.
We spoke of the X-Files earlier but Mark Snhe X-Files" debuts at number 45 and finally, Fugees are the last of the new entries at 49.
Lets head to the UK and US to check out the top 5 singles in both countries
UK Top 5 (Official Charts)
The UK have heralded in a new number one this week with"Ooh Aah...Just A Little bit" by Gina G finally hitting the number one spot pushing George Michael's "Fastlove" back to number 2.
"Return of the Mack" by Mark Morrison stays steady at number 3 while "There's Nothing I Won't do" by JX breaks into the top 5 up 3 places to number four.
Also breaking into the top 5 is The Tony Rich Project with "Nobody Knows" up five places to number 5.
US Top 5 (Billboard Hot 100)
It's a trifecta of new number ones this week because Bone Thugs-N-Harmony have gone number one in the US with "Tha Crossroads", it pushed "Always Be My Baby" by Mariah Carey back to number two.
"Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion remains stuck at number three while "Ironic" by Alanis Morrisette climbs one place to number four pushing "Nobody Knows" by The Tony Rich Project back to number five.
So that wraps up the week, can George hang onto number one? Will OMC come back and snag back number one? All those questions and more to be answered next week
