So this week saw a chunk of the Ariana Grande album bomb leave the charts and some interesting new arrivals including a regaining of traction for a couple of songs that I really didn't expect but returns and new entries are interesting to say the least.
For now, there's no change at the top with "7 Rings" by Ariana Grande remaining at number one however with the album bomb receding and streaming slowing, I am not sure how long this song will remain at number one especially with what is set to be arriving on the chart next week.
Mercifull it remains ahead of Ariana's new single "Break Up with your girlfriend, I'm Bored" which remains at number two and right now I don't see that going much higher for much the same reasons as "7 Rings" with streaming starting to fade and this song's digital sales a bit iffy, it's in trouble if streaming completely borks.
Then it's an open question of what challenges it, it may well not be "Sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee.
The song that might have some chance is Post Malone's second song in the top 5 "Wow" which jumped one place to number four.which pushed "Bury a Friend" by Billie Eilish down to number 5 (the album release can't come soon enough for Eilish's song).
"Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper remains at number six. There's a possibility that this song will rise back into the top 3, there's also a chance that it could knock "7 Rings' off number one when the Hot 100 for next week is released.
"Sweet But Psycho" by Ava Max got a one place boost up to number 7 which can be attributed to the Ariana Grande album bomb falling back.
"Dancing With a Stranger" by Sam Smith and Normani rose two places to number 8 again probably due to the album bomb falling off.
Now we have new arrival to the top ten that being "Talk" by Khalid and Disclosure which made a massive leap from number 24 to number 9 this week off the back of streaming and reasonable digital sales.
Rounding out the top ten is "Without Me" by Halsey which dropped one place to nunmber ten as it heads out of the top ten. Good. The song sucks.
Gains
A lot of songs gained off the back of the Ariana album bomb dropping away with the biggest of thosse gains belonging to "I'm So Tired" by Lauv and Troye Sivan which jumped from 45 to 25.
Sadly there was a ten place gain for The Chainsmokers and 5 Seconds of Summer collab "Who Do You Love?" to number 18. That song is terrible.
"Giant" by Calvin Harris and Rag 'N' Bone Man breaks back into the top 30 up from 33 to 24. "Bad Liar" by Imagine Dragons inexplicably also returns to the top 30 at number 26 up from 32.
Two songs that defeated what I said last week by rising were "Confidence" by Ocean Alley up 3 to 34 and "Middle Child" by J Cole which climbed back up to 27.
Dominic Fike's "3 Nights' seems set to unfortunately become a hit because it's now up ten places to number 20...Australia, why? A good instrumental doesn't make up for bad lyrics..
Re-Entries
There's good news in the re-entries with two fantastic songs back with "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen back at 46 and "Nights Like this" by Kehlani and Ty Dolla $ign at number 50.
Losses
Most of the big losses are for the Ariana Grande album tracks with "Needy" to 38, "Bloodline" to 31, "NASA" to 40, album promo track "Imagine" to 41 and "Bad Idea" to 42 while the lead single and former number one "Thank U, Next" dropped to number 11.
Other than that the only other one that fell was "When the Party's Over" by Billie Eilish which fell four places to 35
Drop Outs
The only significant one was Dynoro's "In My Mind" leaving and good riddance to it. The rest were Ariana album tracks like "Fake Smile", "Ghostin", "In My Head" and "Make Up"
New Entries
All three of the new entries are collaborations with Cardi B and Bruno Mar's new single "Please Me" in at number 22.
YUNGBLUD has teamed up with Halsey and Travis Barker for a song called "11 Minutes" which turns up at number 30 and finally, Zedd and Katy Perry's "365" enters at number 39.
So next week,,,"7 Rings" should hang onto number one depending on how the new Pink song does and what impact the Oscars performance of "Shallow" has so. Don't forget the new chart is announced by ARIA at 5pm AEDT on Saturdays.
