It's pretty much status quo at the very top of the chart with 5 Seconds of Summer's "Youngblood" spending a seventh week at the top of the chart and really giving it's still going okay on iTunes and streaming, it still has momentum behind it.
What is still something of a player is the song that knocked "Youngblood" off number 1 in New Zealand this week "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B at number 2, it's now number 1 on Youtube but its getting pushed back on streaming and on sales.
Then we have the first new Drake entry of the week and unfortunately its the song where he uses an unreleased Michael Jackson song as a sample. Seriously, can Drake actually stop using samples of unreleased music from dead artists and making them sound terrible. Way too shit on Michael's music legacy, you asshole!. Anyway "Don't Matter to Me" by Drake featuring Michael Jackson sits at number 3.
Drake's arrival pushed Post Malone's "Better Now" down to number 4.
Not content with having one song in the top 5, Drake has two with "Nonstop" at entering at number 5.
The arrival of "Scorpion" saw "Sad!" by XXXtentacion pushed back two places to number 6 (Uhh, Australia? I'd like to see this song gone, please).
It also meant big boosts for Nice for What" by Drake to 7 from 16 and "God's Plan" also by Drake to 8 from 29 lat week
Finally, the final two songs aren't by Drake but both got knocked back "2002" by Anne-Marie fell 3 places to 9 and "Solo" by Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato fell 3 to number 10. Good. (Both are terrible songs.
Gains
The biggest gain of the week was also a Drake song with the awful "I'm Upset" going to 17 up from 42 last week.
Beyond that? Well, there was some good news with "Healing Hands" by Conrad Sewell gaining traction off his performance at the Logies up to 21 from 37 and "OTW" by Khalid feat. Ty Dolla $ign and 6lack to 30 from 38 last week were the only big movers up.
Re Entries
Also off the back of the Logies performance "I'll Be There" by Jess Glynne returned at 35.
Losers
Ohh boy, it was a total bloodbath this week but most of these should go up next as the Drake album bomb recedes and Drake songs start dropping or hopefully falling off the chart. I'll do it in dot point form as there are soo many big losers
- The biggest loser of this week was Kanye West's "All Mine" which fell from 17 to 44
- Then we have the songs that fell out of the top 10 like "Lovely" by Billie Eilish and Khalid which fell to 13 from 5 last week, :"Back to You" by Selena Gomez fell to 16 from 9 and "Jocelyn Flores" by XXXtentacion fell to 29 from 8, Not a net positive there, hopefully "lovely" and "Back to You" regain their traction next week cause both are good songs.
- "No Tears Left to cry" by Ariana Grande slipped hard to 22 down ten places while Nicki Minaj's "Bed" with Ariana fell to 38 (I struggle to see "Bed" being a hit quite honestly)
- "I Said Hi" by Amy Shark fell ten place to 23 although it should get a boost with the album being released tomorrow.
- "Ocean" by Martin Garrix and Khalid down 8 to 26
- "Changes" byXXXtentacion fell to 31 from 15 and "Jackie Chan' by Tiesto feat. Dzeko, Preme and Post Malone down to 32 from 23
- Speaking of Post Malone and Ty Dolla Sign, "Psycho" fell hard to 34 from 21
- Ed Sheeran's sappy love ballad that's hung around too long "Perfect: fell to 40 from 27
- "Love Somebody" by Noah Kahan fell to 39 from 25
- "Just Friends" by Hayden James feat. Boy Matthews down to 41 from 34
- "Flames" by David Guetta and Sia slipped from 28 to 42
- Former number one "This is America" by Childish Gambino slipped from 31 to 45
- "Praise The Lord (da Shine)" by A$AP Rocky feat. Skepta fell from 33 to 45
- Sadly, the wonderful "Remnd Me to Forget" by Kygo and Miguel fell from 36 to 47 while Kygo's "Born to Be Yours" with Imagine Dragons also took a hit down to 49 from 32
- Finally "The Middle" by Zedd feat Maren Morris and Grey utterly collapsed 20 places to 50
Time will tell whether these songs will regain their traction.
Drop outs
Given that it's likely some of these will be back I'm just going to go through what did drop out and boy there were some big ones like 2017 number one "Rockstar" by Post Malone and 21 Savage, "Call Out My Name" by The Weekend, "In My Blood" by Shawn Mendes, "I Fall apart" by Post Malone and "Meant to Be" by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line.
I expect most of the above will most likely end up making ARIA's year end list anyway.
Also gone are "Dance to This" by Troye Sivan and Ariana Grande (sorry, that song had flop written all over it sadly), "Shape Of You" and "Happier" both by Ed Sheeran, "Make My Bed" by King Princess and unfortunately "Sober" by Demi Lovato.
New entries
Let's get all the Drake out of the way first as I've already mentioned "Don't matter to Me" at number 3 and "Nonstop" at number 5.
- "Emotionless' entered at number 11
- "In My Feelings" entered at number 15 (the song from the Drake album that looks like sticking around....just (sarcasm) wonderful)
- "8 out of 10" at 27
- "Mob Ties" at 28
- "Talk Up" at 33
- "Can't Take a Joke" at 36
However there was one non Drake song that managed to make it's entry in the top 50 and quite hugh too which was "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis at number 19 (easily the best of the new arrivals for me)
Okay so that wraps up Drakepocalypse blog entry. Let's hope the charts get back to normal quickly because I am thoroughly sick of Drake.
