You know that feeling you get when you look at the chart and see what happened below the top ten and get a sick feeling in the pit of your stomache? Yeah, that's what happened to me this week with the bubbling tide of crap coming up on the charts, there's not many good signs going forward here, folks.
Firstly though, let's deal with the top ten where Tones and I spend a third week at number one with "Dance Monkey", I don't see it getting knocked off number one for at least another few weeks, its dominant on sales and on streaming.
Hell it's got a comfortable gap on "Senorita" by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello which stayed at number two this week.
"Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X remains at number three, I expect this song to have a very slow exit from the top ten, it has lost the number one spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 after a record 19 weeks at number one there.
Ed Sheeran regains ground to go up one place to number four with "Beautiful People" feat. Khalid as did new US number one "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish which went up one place to number 5 while "Goodbyes" by Post Malone and Young Thug also went up a place to number six.
All of that is because "Boyfriend" by Ariana Grande and Social House dropped three places to number seven, I am not certain this song is going to stick around but anyway..
What is sticking around is Blanco Brown's "The Git Up" which went up one place to number eight. It's looking pretty solid in the top ten right now thanks to digital sales more so than streaming which is fine by me!
"Piece of Your Heart" by Meduza and Goodboys jumped one to number nine this week while finally hanging on to the top ten like that final bit of faeces is "Someone You Loved' by Lewis Capaldi which returned to the top ten at number ten this week. Gross.
Gains
It's not a good sign when the biggest gainer of the week is "F*** I'm Lonely" by Lauv and Anne-Marie which jumped from 37 to 19 this week. Really, Australia? There's so much better out there right now.
Thankfully Jessica Mauboy's excellent "Little Things" rose from 33 to 25 this week and "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper continues it's never ending chart run by jumping nine places to number 30.
Finally Bazzi's "I.F.L.Y" rose seven places to 41 off it's debut last week
Re-Entry
I kind of want to pretend that this re-entry didn't happen because the song is terrible, for some inexplicable reason "The London" by Young Thug feat. J Cole and Travis Scott is back at 50
Losses
The biggest loser this week was "Antisocial" by Ed Sheeran feat. Travis Scott which fell hard to 43, "Call You Mine" by The Chainsmokers and Bebe Rexha dropped eight places to 44.
"Higher Love" by Kygo and Whitney Houston stumbled six places to 21.
Drop Outs
I suppose I cannot be too pissed about the drop outs given we did lose "Don't Check on Me" by Chris Brown feat. Justin Bieber and "SOS" by Avicii and Aloe Blacc but I am slightly disappointed to see "The Archer" by Taylor Swift gone even though it is just an album track.
New Entries
That said I think my disappointment in the loss of "The Archer" is magnified when looking at one of our two new entries that being "Ransom" by Lil Tecca which enters at 15. Seriously, we replaced Taylor Swift's best song since "Getaway Car" with a kid who doesn't have much to say? Come on people.
Finally the other new entry is the decent "Small Talk" by Katy Perry at number 33.
That ends this week. An updated ARIA chart is released at 5pm AEST on Saturday
