The biggest story this week is: Kanye West and that shouldn't surprise anyone after all I am getting the feeling that Kanye likes the attention being on him however the only place Kanye didn't touch was the top ten which is looking a little like this...
5 Seconds of Summer spend a third week at number one with "Youngblood" and right now it's pretty much dominant across the board, on sales and streaming, it definitely has a lot more time at number one in it.
"Better Now" by Post Malone remains at number 2 despite a slip on sales, it's streaming still pretty good but it wouldn't want to start slipping.
"One Kiss" by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa and "No Tears Left to Cry" by Ariana Grande remain at 3 and 4 respectively. Neither song could bridge the margins of "Better now" so bother stay where they are.
Biggest debut of the week lands at number 5, I wish I could say the song is good because it's "Girls :Like You" by Ad...oops...Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B. Maroon 5 today released a cover of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" and it's as bad you would imagine it to be.
Amy Shark's "I Said Hi" jumped two places to number 6 as did Selena Gomez's "Back to You" which goes to number 7.
This meant "Love Lies" by Khalid and Normani slipped to number 8 as it looks to be heading out of the top ten rather gracefully.
However I suspect what also contributed to the rises of "I Said Hi" and "Back to You" were the mini collapses of Drake's "Nice For What?' which fell 4 to number 9 and Childish Gambino's 'This is America" down 4 to number 10!
Gains.
There wasn't a lot of good news in the gains this week, the biggest gainer this week was Ed Sheeran's "Happier which rose from 39 to 26 for some unknown reason.
Australia continues to show they love mumble rap with the ten place rise of "Lucid Dreams" by Juice WRLD to 27.
The juvenile and increasingly annoying "Solo" by Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato continues to rise, it jumped from 36 to 28
Losers
The Kanye bomb saw plenty of chaos this week with a lot of songs losing ground, the biggest of those being "Praise the Lord (da Shine)" by A$AP Rocky feat. Skepta down to 47.
"Playinwitme" by Kyle feat. Kehlani hasn't really got going at all and slipped down to 49.
Then there are the hits the for the songs that are fading out naturally like the 10 place hit for Dua Lipa's "IDGAF" which went from 33 to 44 and "These Days" by Rudimental featuring Jess Glunne, Macklemore and Dan Caplen down 11 places to 43.
In the good news department: "Freaky Friday" by Lil Dicky feat. Chris Brown slipped 12 places to 38.
However the biggest bad news was that "Youth" by Shawn Mendes" dropped from 19 to 31.
Drop outs
The Kanye bomb saw "No Place" by Rufus Du Sol and "Somebody" by the Chainsmokers and Drew Love exit (The Chainsmokers aren't having a great 2018 it has to be said.
Post Malone also saw "Paranoid" and "Ball for Me", the latter featuring Nicki Minaj, both fall out.
While long running songs such as "Sad!" by XXXtentacion, "Look Alive" by Blocboy JB and Drake, "This is Me" by Keala Settle and The Greatest Showman Ensemble and "Say Something" by Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton also fall out. Not all that disappointed to be losing any of those)
The one song I am disappointed to see gone...yet again, is "Bloom" by Troye Sivan especially considering his song with Ariana Grande isn't all that good yet it'll probably be a hit yet a great song like "Bloom" won't get anywhere near the chart time, you disappoint me sometimes, Australia.
New Entries
As I mentioned in the top ten, the highest new entry was "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B at number 5 but from there? Well most of the new entries are by Kanye so I am going to just list the new Kanye songs.
- "All Mine" arrives at number 12
- "Yikes" at number 18
- "Ghost Town enters at 22
- "Wouldn't Leave" at 33
- "Violent Crimes" at 40
-"I Thought about Killing You" at 41
- Finally..."No Mistakes" at 46.
The only other non Kanye song to enter the chart was Drake's "I'm Upset" at number 48.
So it remains to be seen how much of the Kanye bomb sticks around (I am tipping not much of it will), we''ll find out soon enough when ARIA release the chart for the week starting Monday 18th June on Saturday at 5pm AEST.
