ARIA Singles Chart top ten/chart review: 17th September: Kanye and Lil Pump debut inside top ten

There's a change a-coming to the ARIA singles chart...just not this week...but seriously there's something brewing and I don't know if it is any good especially considering the new entry to the top ten but we'll get to taking that trash out.

Anyway Dean Lewis spends his fifth week at number one with "Be Alright" but things aren't looking promising for fifth week at the top as digital sales and streaming have started to slow.

The favourite to take number one is "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid at number two, its still doing well on streaming but digital sales have slowed.

Another contender for number one is George Ezra's "Shotgun" which remains at number three for another week, it still leads on digital sales and I can only see digital sales improving.

Heck the top five is actually okay with the terrific "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith being the biggest gainer across the chart this week leaping eight places to number four and is a genuine contender for number one.

What's not is "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 and Cardi B which somehow leapt one place to return to the top 5 at number 5 largely due to the weakness of "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer which remained at number 6

However it could be overtaken by the new entry at number seven and the garbage that needs to go into a bin, "I Love It" by Kanye West feat. Lil Pump. This song is just utter drivel from start to finish but its got good streaming and that's about it, hopefully radio doesn't pick it up (given the language used, I doubt they will)

"High Hopes" by Panic! At the Disco remains at number 8 again this week. Good sign as I really like that song so the longer it stays in the top ten is good at least to me

"Rise" by Jonas Blue feat. Jack and Jack returned to the top ten at number 9, up two places on last week but I don't see it lasting much longer in the top ten

Finally, "In My Feelings" by Drake slipped one place to number ten meaning next week could be the first week without a Drake song in the top ten for awhile.

Gains

Most songs got their gains back as the Eminem album bomb predictably receded with "Happier" by Marshmello feat. Bastille jumping from 19 to 13 (probably cracks top ten next week), "Brautiful" by Bazzi feat. Camila up to 15 from 21 (Camila has announced "Consequences" as the next single from her album (obviously after 'Real Friends' remix with Swae Lee flopped).

The major hit in Canada and the UK, "Body" by Loud Luxury and Brando jumped from 32 to 25 as it seems likely to become the next major electronic hit in Australia.

"Happy Now"  by Zedd feat. Elley Duhe regained some lost ground climbing from 35 to 27 (It's an okay song, doesn't really have much impact on me one way or the other if I am being honest)

Losers

Let's blow through all the Eminem losses this week because the biggest was his song "Greatest" which fell from 15 to 38. "Lucky You" with Joyner Lucas fell out of the top ten to number 11. "Kamikaze" fell down one place to 14, "The Ringer" to 18, "Not Alike" with Royce Da 5'9" down to 32 from 23 and finally "Fall" lived up to it's name plummeting to 36.

Outside of Eminem though, "Healing Hands" by Conrad Sewell find 5 to 19, "God is a Woman" by Ariana Grande slipped four to 20 and "Nevermind" by Dennis Lloyd dropped from 27 to 31.

Finally in good news, it looks as though "Solo" by Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato is on the way out as it fell from 41 to 49.

Re-Entries

The only re-entry is Jason DeRulo's "Goodbye" feat. David Guetta, Nicki Minaj and Willy William at 48 (Australia, really, you can do better)

Drop outs

Five of the six drop outs are Eminem songs including both songs with Jessie Reyez "Nice Guy" and "Good Guy" along with "Normal", "Venom" and "Stepping Stone"

The only non Eminem song to fall out was 'Hurt Somebody' by Noah Kahan which actually had a pretty decent run spending 25 weeks on the chart, it may well make the year end list.

New Entries

So apart from Kanye and Lil Pump's new entry inside the top ten, we got "Electricity" by Silk City (Mark Ronson and Diplo) feat. Dua Lipa at 33 (I am hoping this song does well, I really like it a lot), "Natural" by Imagine Dragons at 37, "In My Mind" by Dynoro (this song has been HUGE in Europe especially in Germany)

16 year old Triple J unearthed act Kian has his first ARIA top 50 single with "Waiting" debuting at number 50 (I hope it sticks around but wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't)

So that was the week and it was a mixed one at that. Dean Lewis time at number one seems limited but I am not sure what is going to replace it.

ARIA top ten/Chart Review: 10th September: Kamikaze lived up to its name as an Eminem album bomb detonates

Fair to say this week wasn't pretty at all, only few songs made gains and those songs that were climbing lost ground while others that had been falling continued their descent all because of an Eminem "Kamikaze" album bomb.

Let's begin with the top 10, Eminem didn't manage to cause a change at number one with Dean Lewis remaining at number one for a fourth straight week with "Be Alright" but it could have some competition for number one soon more on that in a moment.

It's probably not going to come from "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid at number 2, its digital sales are just not matching the song's streaming unfortunately. I actually don't mind this song at all, it's the best Halsey has sounded on anything she's done.

The real challenger for number one comes in the form of George Ezra's "Shotgun" which jumped three places to number 3 this week, it's ruling digital sales and if it gets some streaming gains then there's a fair chance that we might see this song go number one (I'd be happy with that because it's a pretty great pop song)

This where we hit the first and second of the eleven new Eminem songs that reached the ARIA top 50 this week with "Lucky You" feat. Lucas Joyner at number four and "The Ringer" at number five, I don't expect either of these two songs to stick around in the top ten though.

Former chart topper "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer fell three places to number 6 as it continues to rise on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, it currently sits at number thirteen and is a chance of breaking into the top ten there.

It was the same sized drop for Maroon 5 and Cardi B with "Girls Like You" dropping to number seven.

Perhaps mostly surprisingly is the fact "High Hopes" by Panic! At the Disco remaining at number eight. It's actually in Australia where this song is performing the best which is a bit of a surprise.

"In My Feelings" by Drake slid for four places because the novelty of the challenge for this song is being replaced by similarly annoying challenges for crap songs.

Rounding out the the top ten is "No Brainer" by DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper and Quavo at number ten which is a drop of three places.

I expect most of those that dropped places will regain them once the Eminem album bomb recedes.

Gains

Very few gains of note this week, the biggest mover was "Happier" by Marshmello feat. Bastille which jumped from 25 to 19.

Losers

There were some big losers across the board, I am not going to go through every single song that lost this week because most of them will regain ground next week with the album bomb fading away. The biggest loser was "Solo" by Clean Bandit featuring Demi Lovato fell from 28 to 41.

Other songs to fall big included "I Like It' by Cardi B feat. Bad Bunny and J Balvin (I am not convinced the Australian public love Cardi B just yet to be honest), "I'll be There' by Jess Glynne falling from 29 to 36 and "No Tears Left to Cry" by Ariana Grande down to 42 from 31 however I suspect those songs may well have been on the way out anyway.

Taking a hit were "Happy Now" by Zedd and Elley Duhe down to 35 from 27 and "Beautiful" by Bazzi featuring Camila Cabello down to 21 from 18.

Drop Outs

So let's start with songs that will make the year end list that fell out of the top 50 this week: "One Kiss" by Calvin Harris feat. Dua Lipa, "Back To You" by Selena Gomez",  former number one"God's Plan" by Drake (thank godness), "Nice for What" by Drake and "Psycho" by Post Malone feat. Ty Dolla Sign.

Songs having their run cut short. "Nonstop" by Drake (not a good week at all for Drake) and "Just Friends" by Hayden James and Boy Matthews.

Gone and probably won't return: "Idol" by BTS (Good, a pretty awful song),

Might return with Eminem's album bomb receding: "Goodbye" by Jason Derulo feat. David Guetta, Nicki Minaj and Willy William, "I'm A Mess" by Bebe Rexha and "Don't Leave Me Alone" by David Guetta feat. Anne-Marie.

New Entries

So I am going to make this quick and get through all of these Eminem new entries as quickly as possible because I doubt any of them are sticking around.

Outside of "Lucky You" and "The Ringer", there was "Kamikaze" at 13, "Greatest" at 15, "Fall" at 23, "Not Alike" feat. Royce Da 5'9", "Stepping Stone" at 34, "Venom" at 37, "Good Guy" feat. Jessie Reyez at 46 and finally "Nice Guy" also feat. Jessie Reyez at 48.

Ugh, I dislike album bombs, hopefully the one recedes quickly. ARIA will post the latest chart update at 5pm on Saturday.

ARIA Singles Chart top ten/Chart Review: 3rd September. Calmer week with Eminem on the horizon.

So this week felt like a much calmer week as the Ariana mini album bomb recedes and the chart braces for another this time because Eminem, of all people, dropped a surprise album called "Kamikaze" on Friday but we'll deal with all of that later.

Let's get to our top ten and very much stable at number one is "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis for a third consecutive week, it does look like losing number one at this stage.

Well at least not to "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid at number two which is also looking like it might well be willing play the waiting game because its pretty strong right now however it's a matter of seeing whether it will be as strong when "Be Alright" weakens because I am not convinced it's going to be the case.

Quite surprisingly "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer climbed back up one place to number 3 (don't get me wrong, it's probably going to make my year end best hits list but this is sticking around much longer than I expected) and also a surprise rise for "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B back up to number 4.

That said those rises could have come because "In My Feelings" by Drake began losing streams hard this week and as a result fell two places to number 5.

The song that appears likely to be a challenger for number one quite soon is George Ezra's "Shotgun" which jumped 3 places to number 6 and given it's number one on iTunes right now, if it's streaming picks up, this song could get HUGE.

What finally is starting to fall away is the 2nd worst song in the top 10 which is "No Brainer" by DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Chance The Rapper and Quavo which fell one place to number 7.

Panic! At the Disco are enjoying their biggest hit in Australia with "High Hopes" regaining lost ground up two places to number 8. I actually really like the song so am glad it's doing well.

Jonas Blue feat. Jack and Jack's "Rise" returns to the top 10 this week up two to number 9 courtesy of the Ariana Grande album bomb falling away.

Speaking of Ariana Grande, "God is a Woman" slipped 3 places this week back to number 10.

Gains

Not sure if I am all that happy about our biggest gainer this week which is "Happier" by Marshmello feat. Bastille which jumped from 48 to 25. I mean really? We can do better than that song, Australia!

Speaking of better EDM songs, another big riser was "Promises" by Calvin Harris feat. Sam Smith up from 30 to 14. This song will be in the top ten next week if it isn't affected by the Eminem album bomb.

"Beautiful" by Bazzi feat. Camila Cabello breaks into the top 10 at 18.

Zedd feat. Elley Duhe's "Happy Now" jumps from 31 to 27,

"Body" by Loud Luxury feat. Brando jumped seven places to reach 33.

For some strange reason "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran also jumped from 44 to 38. I can't explain that one.

Re-Entries

"Leave Me Alone" by David Guetta feat. Anne-Marie returns after being bumped off the chart by Ariana Grande at 48.

While "Psycho" by Post Malone feat. Ty Dolla $ign just won't disappear for good, it returns at 49 because we can't always have good things on the ARIA charts right now.

Losers

I did mention that the Ariana Grande's mini album bomb fell away this week and that meant "No Tears Left to Cry" fell ten places to 31.

There is good news with utter crap like "Fefe" by 6ix9ine feat. Nicki Minaj continues to fall, this week down to 24 and "Solo" by Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato down three places to 28.

"One Kiss" by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa continues to move it's way out of the top 50 down to 37 from 33 however that song will make the year end list so am happy about that because it's grown on me quite a bit.

Also on it's way out is "Back to You" by Selena Gomez down four places to 39.

Drop Outs

Nothing significant  dropped out of the top 50 as far as year end list  goes this week with two album tracks from Ariana Grande with "Sweetener" and "Everytime gone" taking with it "Stargazing" by Travis Scott and "Respect" by Aretha Franklin.

New Entries

The two new entries are two pretty awful songs however I am also expecting at least one of them to not stick around.

"Idol" by K-pop band BTS debuts at 35, it's the band's highest debuting song in Australia and sadly is one of the band's worst songs. It is a mess of a song from start to finish.

Jason DeRulo returns to the charts at number 50 with "Goodbye" feat. David Guetta, Nicki Minaj and Willy William.

So apart from that Eminem album bomb, am expecting a move into the top ten for "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith, also think "Shotgun" by George Ezra will break into the top 5 but we'll find out on Saturday at 5pm AEST.

ARIA Top Ten/Chart Review: 27th August 2018. Ariana arrives, Aretha returns

Very little in the way of surprises this week, we got the Ariana Grande album bomb that was expected and considering the album debuted at number one, we got two Ariana songs inside the top ten.

However it's still Dean Lewis at the top for week number 2 at number 1 with "Be Alright" and really I don't see this song being knocked off number one for awhile with streaming and sales still extremely strong for this song.

This week's new number 1 in New Zealand sits at number 2 on the Australian singles chart that being "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid jumped two places to number 4. This song has been going gangbusters on streaming for awhile but it needs stronger digital sales to challenge "Be Alright"

However it did push "In My Feelings" by Drake to number 3 and "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer to number 4.

A song that's a contender for being the biggest song of the year to be blocked from number one is remaining at number 5 this week, that song being "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B.

It's yet another week at number six for "No Brainer" by DJ Khalid feat. Justin Bieber, Chance The Rapper and Quavo.

We then get to "God is a Woman" by Ariana Grande which returned to the top ten by jumping ten places to number 7 courtesy of the album dropping. Ariana's likely next single "Breathin'" is the highest new entry this week at number 8

The song that is likely to make a play for number one should streaming improve is "Shotgun" by George Ezra which jumped two places to number 9.

Finally Panic! At the Disco round out the top 10 at number 10 with "High Hopes" but I expect this song to rebound post the Ariana Grande "Sweetener" album bomb

Gainers

Unsurprisingly the biggest gainer this week was from Ariana Grande with former number one "No Tears Left to Cry" rising from 45 to 21. We've already mentioned the big gain for "God is a Woman"

"Beautiful" by Bazzi feat. Camila Cabello jumped from 34 to 22. Bazzi looks to be one of the breakout stars of 2018.

Also breaking back into the top 20 is "Ocean" by Martin Garrix and Khalid up from 21 to 17.

Finally the last of the big gainers is the Canadian and UK hit "Body" by Loud Luxury feat. Brando (a song I don't get the appeal of to be honest but good on you if you like it) which jumped 8 places to 40.

Re-Entries

The recent passed and much loved Aretha Franklin's "Respect returns to the top 50 at number 50, it originally peaked at number 14 in 1967. There's not much I can say that would properly pay true respect to somebody as amazing as Aretha was.

Losers

Anyway getting back into it, time to look at our losers this week and "Stargazing" by Travis Scott continued it's freefall down from 32 to 49 to be the biggest loser this week.

"Better Now" by Post Malone fell from 12 to 18 (The sooner this song is gone the better) while "FEFE" by 6ix9ine feat. Nicki Minaj fell four places to 19.

"I Wanna Know" by NOTD and Bea Miller (a  song I kind of wish was better than it actually is) dropped to 28 from 23.

On the subject of crap, "Sad!" by XXXTentacion fell to 32 from 27 while "God's Plan" by Drake fell to 46 from 39. "Nice for What?" by Drake slipped to 45 from 36.

Finally on the losers front, Amy Shark's "I Said Hi" continues its exit path fealling from 31 to 39. ("All Loved Up" is on the way, Amy Shark fans, don't worry!).

Drop Outs.

The drop outs this week are a mixed back with the pretty awful "Psycho" by Post Malone feat. Ty Dolla $ign and the meh "Shape Of You" by Ed Sheeran both likely to make year end list despite Sheeran's song being from 2017!

Also likely to make the year end list is "Love Lies" by Khalid and Normani. Sad to see it go but also happy that it will make year end list because it's a good song.

Following those out are "Bed" by Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande (weird, as I would have expected that to also get a rise given Ariana's involvement), "Don't Leave Me Alone" by David Guetta and Anne-Marie and finally "You Should See Me in A Crown" by Billie Eilish.

New Entries

So outside of Ariana's "Breathin'" which cracked the top ten, there were 4 other new entries with "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith debuting at number 30 (I really like this song despite some annoying elements).

From there we get to "Everytime" by Ariana Grande at number 36 and Ariana's album title tracker "Sweetener" entering at 43.

Finally "Happier" by Marshmello and Bastille is the last of the new entries at number 48.

So what to expect on Saturday, probably Dean Lewis remaining at number one while there's likely to be new chart entries for BTS (sadly their new song is a pile of awful), Jason DeRulo collaborating with Nicki Minaj and Willy William...whatever else who knows.

ARIA Top Ten/ Chart Review: August 20th. New number one as chart prepares for Ariana

This week was reasonably crazy, heck, there was the sudden collapse for "In My Feelings" that unexpectedly triggered a new and quite fascinating race for number one plus any number of new entries lower down the chart along with a return that just refuses to go away.

So getting to that new number one which is "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis, it's his first number one single and it's the second song by an Australian artist to hit number one and he got there through digital sales more so than streaming which in the modern era is something amazing.

Drake sits at number two with "In My Feelings" which comes as a surprise because the collapse was quite sudden as it still held a decent lead on streams which it has now lost to "Be Alright".

Hanging on at number three is another former number one in  "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds Summer, I've been waiting for this song to fall away gracefully but it's doing rather well to hang on.

"Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid finally overtook "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B to go to number 4. "Girls Like You" drops to number 5.

"No Brainer" by DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper and Quavo remains at number 6 this week (I have no idea where this song is headed but I hope it's down because it's TERRIBLE.

Then we get to a real sleeper hit because I have no idea how this happened. Panic! At The Disco have their first ever top ten hit in Australia with "High Hopes" rising seven places to number 7. Don't get me wrong, I like the song but given how much of the rock aesthetic on the Australian charts has died, this is still something of a surprise.

"Rise" by Jonas Blue feat. Jack and Jack also rose 1 place to number 8. "Healing Hands" by Conrad Sewell fell to number 9 while "Sicko Mode" by Travis Scott fell from 7 to 10 to wrap up the top ten.

Gainers

The biggest gainer was George Ezra's UK number one "Shotgun" which jumped from 27 to 11, at the rate it's going it could very well be challenging for number one very soon.

"Born to Be Yours" by Kygo and Imagine Dragons broke in the top 20 by jumping from 22 to 18.

In good news for Aussie artists. "Never Ever" by The Rubens feat. Sarah rose from 32 to 25.

"Bed" by Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande rose from 43 to 40 but that was the only news as far as Nicki Minaj goes inside the top 50. Only two of the tracks from Minaj's album Queen debuted within the top 100 with "Barbie Dreams" at 57 and "Majesty" with Eminem and Labrinth at 60.

Returns

Not sure why this happened but "Shape Of You" by Ed Sheeran returned at number 50 for a 78th week inside the top 50.

Losers

Unsurprisingly the biggest fall was for "Stargazing" by Travis Scott wich fell from 10 to 32.

In some good news. there was also a four place drop for "FEFE" by 6ix9ine feat. Nicki Minaj which slipped to 15.

"God is a Woman" by Ariana Grande fell from 12 to 17 but I expect it and "No Tears Left to Cry" which stumbled down to 45 from to rebound courtesy of the release of Grande's album "Sweetener"

"Solo" by Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato continues to slip, this week down to 22 from 19.

"Lovely" by Billie Eilish and Khalid dived to 29 from 25.

Drop Outs

The drop outs are ones that I aren't all that bothered about. Maybe the only one that does bother me a little is "Clark Griswold" by Hilltop Hoods and Adrian Eagle.because more Australian talent on the top 50 the better.

As for the rest of these? Well out of the top 50 are "OTW" by Khalid feat. Ty Dolla $ign and 6lack, "Jocelyn Flores" by XXXtentacion, "Butterfly Effect" by Travis Scott and most pleasingly "Don't Matter to Me" by Drake feat. Michael Jackson.

All in all good job this week, Australia.

New Entries

Best of the new entries this week is "Beautiful" by Bazzi who remixed the song to feat. Camila Cabello so as a result it's the remix that's charting.

Finally reaching the top 50 is "Don't Leave Me Alone" by David Guetta and Anne-Marie at number 43.

Billie Eilish debuts her latest single at number 47 with "You should see me in a crown".

Finally at number 48, a song that has been a top ten hit in the UK and Canada is "Body" by Loud Luxury feat. Brando.

So that wraps up the week, I am expecting A LOT of Ariana Grande next week and at least one new song of hers to impact the top ten. Sadly, "Sweetener" on the whole was a bit of a disappointment so kind of not looking forward to seeing how much of an impact the album had.

Thursday, 16 August 2018

ARIA Top ten/ Chart Review: August 13th. Travis Scott disrupts the top ten thanks to ASTROWORLD

So this week brought a small amount of Travis Scott with it courtesy of his album "Astroworld", I has been expecting Scott to land songs on the chart...just not two songs in the top ten and another song lower down the chart, this is the first of three possible album bombs with Nicki Minaj having released "Queen" last Friday and Ariana Grande to release 'Sweetener" this Friday. I am expecting a bigger impact from Ariana's release than Nicki's (I expect 3 to maybe 4 songs from Nicki's album to debut or return)

As for the top half of the top ten though? Nothing changed with "In My Feelings" by Drake holding number one for a fourth week but there could be change in the midst with a sudden fall in Drake's streaming numbers.

"Be Alright" by Dean Lewis held on to number 2 thanks to pretty good digital sales numbers but I am not convinced that he is a challenger for number one right now...unfortunately.

To be honest there's no change to the top six from last week with "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer at number 3, "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 and Cardi B at number four, "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid at number 5 and "No Brainer" by DJ Khaled feat Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper and Quavo at number 6.

We get to the first of the Travis Scott new entries at number 7 with "SICKO MODE"...I'd be surprised if this song sticks around in the top ten though.

Conrad Sewell's "Healing Hands" rebounded to number 8 and hopefully will remain in the top ten in the weeks ahead because yeah, I adore this song.

Another good song which has broken into the top ten this week is "Rise" by Jonas Blue feat. Jack and Jack which jumped two places to number 9.

Rounding out the top ten is Travis Scott's 2nd new entry with "Stargazing" arriving at number 10.

Gains

Few gainers this week, the biggest being for Panic! At the Disco with "High Hopes" moving up ten places to 14 making it their second biggest single behind "I write Sins Not Tragedies" which peaked at number 12 over 12 years ago which is pretty stunning considering how much the rock aesthetic on the Australian charts has died out.

The other big mover was former British and Ireland number one "Shotgun" by George Ezra which also jumped ten places from 37 to 27. This song has been huge in the UK so would not be surprised if it breaks into the top ten here.

Outside of those two the pickings for gainers are slim. "Hurt Somebody" by Noah Kahan jumped two places to 38.

Re-Entries

Just the one return this week with Hilltop Hoods back at 49 with "Clark Griswold" feat. Adrian Eagle

Losers

We had a looong list of losers this week but as always we'll focus on the big ones with "Don't Matter to Me" by Drake feat. Michael Jackson plummeting from 32 to 47 (Good!)

"Bed" by Nicki Minaj feat. Ariana Grande fell from 39 to 43 but should rebound courtesy of Minaj releasing Queen.

Speaking of Ariana Grande "No tears Left to Cry" fell from 33 to 40 and "God Is a Woman" fell to 12 but with Sweetener being released tomorrow should see both these songs get boosts in the coming weeks.

Former number one "Nice for What" by Drake fell from 29 to 34.

"2002" by Anne-Marie fell from 15 to 21 as it falls gracefully after a better than expected run.

Finally "Better Now" by Post Malone finally fell out out of the top ten from 9 to 13.

Drop Outs.

We finally lost the last dregs of 2017 with "Rockstar" by Post Malone feat. 21 Savage finally dropping out after 45 weeks on the chart.

The only really significant song to drop out that might well make year end is "Remind Me to Forget"  by Kygo and Miguel.

The others gone are "Changes" by XXXtentacion and "Summertime Magic" by Childish Gambino

New Entries

Travis Scott really is the biggest story of this week with the only other new entry being his song "Butterfly Effect" which entered at 46 and that was about all for the new entries with the other two songs being Travis Scott songs that I'd already mentioned in talking about the top ten.

So that wraps up the week and I have to say given the surprise fall away of  "In My Feelings" by Drake on both sales and streams this week, we may well see a new number one but I have been wrong before about that. Instinct suggests it's between "Be Alriight" by Dean Lewis and "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid, I don't really care either way as I like both songs so until then see you all later.

ARIA Top Ten/Chart Review: 6th August: The chart gets a little ordinary...

Not sure how I put it nicely...this week sucked...some good songs went down while we got two debuts inside the top ten, one that I was expecting and the other...well...let's just say my opinion of the lead artist of that song is pretty low and my opinion of  his female collaborator took a nose dive.

Anyway I am getting ahead of myself here, let's begin at number one where no surprise, its "In My Feelings" by Drake due to the music video dropping and it still leading on streaming.

We have a new number 2 this week with Dean Lewis's "Be Alright" moving up one place to take number 2 from former chart topper "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer which dropped to number 3. Interestingly both songs continue to do fairly well on sales despite streams not being all they could be for either song.

"Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B remains at number 4 however it is definitely going to come under threat from the biggest mover of the week which is "Eastside" by Benny Blanco feat. Halsey and Khalid which jumped from 12 to 5 and looks likely to rise higher which actually is good news because I really don't mind the song.

Then we get to the first of the new entries which is "No Brainer" by DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper and Quavo at number 6. I really dislike this song and I hope it falls away fast because it is mediocre at best and terrible at worst.

"God is a Woman" by Ariana Grande is waiting for the boost it will get from the release of Grande's album "Sweetener" next week.

At number 8 is "Fefe" by 6ix9ine feat. Nicki Minaj (sigh).

Post Malone slipped three places to number nine with 'Better Now" as did "Healing Hands" byg Conrad Sewell which fell from 7 to 1o

Gains

Well the biggest gainer of the week was "Eastside" but outstide that is "Rise" by Jonas Blue feat. Jack and Jack which jumped 5 places to sit just outside the top ten at number 11, it could jump into the top 10 next week though.

"Born to be Yours" by Kygo feat. Imagine Dragons jumped 4 places to break into the top 20 at number 20.

Panic! At the Disco continue to have a surprising run with "High Hopes" continuing to climb, this week, its up 6 places to number 24.

Losers.

Biggest loser was "Summertime Magic" by Childish Gambino which fell to 49 from 34 the previous week.

Also falling hard was "OTW" by Khalid feat. Ty Dolla $ign and 6lack which slipped from 29 to 43, "Don't Matter to Me" by Drake feat. Michael Jackson slumped down from 18 to 32.

"One Kiss" by Calvin Harris feat. Dua Lipa dropped from 21 to 28 (it's safe on the year end list though).

"Nevermind" by Dennis Lloyd (a song I keep forgetting exists) dropped from 10 to 17 and also in good news "Solo" by Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato dropped from 11 to 16 (Hey Australia, let's give Demi's better song "Sober" some chart traction here).

Drop Outs

The only song I am sorry to see gone is Shawn Mendes "In My Blood"...hopefully it makes the year end list...I can hope, right?

Also a maybe for the year end list is "Flames" by David Guetta and Sia while definitely making the ARIA year end list and probably my year end worst hits of the year list is "Meant to be" by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line.

The only other song to drop off was "Shape Of You" by Ed Sheeran for maybe the third and final time...

New Entries

The good news there was better that entered the chart below the awful of both "No Brainer" and "Fefe"

Zedd's latest collaboration with a up and coming female popstar Elley Duhe called "Happy Now" entered at 31 and finally George Ezra made his return to the Australian charts (about time) with "Shotgun" entering at 37 (that song has spent weeks at the top of the UK charts)

So that wraps up the week. Next three weeks at least are likely to see album bombs from Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande and its definitely going to make things interesting.
