So I didn't see this coming, we have a new number one and it's not from any of the songs that I thought were destined to challenge "Fastlove" by George Michael for the top spot, the new number one is a cover of Roberta Flack's 1973 single "Killing Me Softly" by Fugees, now this has all the potential to be a huge song because it did some fantastic sales numbers.
Had Fugees not busted in, Celine Dion would be sitting at number one with "Because You Loved Me" but that had to settle for a two place climb to number two pushing "Nobody Knows" by The Tony Rich Project back to number three.
A big climber within the top ten this week is the "Theme from Mission Impossible" by Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen which jumped five places to number four.
It was a case of downward momentum for the rest of the top ten though as former number one "Fastlove" by George Michael slipped back to number five as it looks to gracefully head down, it followed Triple X "X Files Theme (Version Dance)" as that tumbled three places to number six and "Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit" by Gina G stuttered down two places to number 7.
The second cover inside the top ten "Sexual Healing" by Max-A-Million dropped two places to number eight, 'Children" by Robert Miles dropped two places to number nine and "Until It Sleeps"
by Metallica down two places to number ten.
Gains
Everything But the Girl have one of the biggest gainers of the week with "Walking WOunded" up ten places to 36 while Madonna's "Love Don't Live Here Anymore (remix)" surged from 49 to 34.
Losses
Not too many big losses this week with a nine place fall for Mark Snow's version of "The X-Files Theme" as it went to 39 a nd the ten place dive for "Salvation by The Cranberries to 44.
The Prodigy slipped to 49 from 41 with "Firestarter"
New Entries
So outside of Fugees debuting at number one, what else new turned up this week We have to go all the way to 32 to find the latest single from "Jagged Little Pill" called "You Learn" by Alanis Morisette, a song that is pretty excellent.
Mark Morrison finally shows up on the Australian charts after dominating overseas with "Return of the Mack" at number 47.
Kadoc have arrived at station number 48 with "The Nighttrain" while Ash are pointing at numbe 50 with "Goldfinger.
All in all a pretty short wrap for this week with the new number one being the big story, will be interesting to see how much longevity it has.

ARIA Singles top ten/chart review: 17th June. A surprise new arrival in top 50 as top ten mostly static
This week was weird. The top ten was mostly completely static apart from something that could be seen coming a mile away but we got some new arrivals that I didn't predict at all.
So let's start with the top ten where for an eighth week "Old Town Road" rules the roost thanks to digital sales because it is losing ground on streaming which is where "I Don't Care" by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber is gaining strength given it is ruling streaming right now as it sits at number two on the ARIA chart.
"Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish looks to have started to tire after two weeks at number one earlier this year, it should be overtaken by stronger songs over the next few weeks including a few songs to probably debut in the top ten next week.
Same could be said for "Someone You Loved' by Lewis Capaldi stuck at number 4 and "Cross Me" by Ed Sheeran feat. Chance The Rapper and PNB Rock.
Sheeran released the tracklist for his collaborations album which features Bruno Mars, Chris Stapleton, Cardi B and Camila Cabello amongst others. It already sounds a bit yikes if I am to be honest.
Back to the chart though which is where we find Shawn Mendes steady at number six with "If I Can't Have You". Honestly I expected this song to be gone from the top ten a few weeks ago. I am surprised that it is still here.
As I am surprised with the staying power of Katy Perry's "Never Really Over" which remains at number seven, its been doing some solid numbers on sales and streaming which is a good sign for her going forward.
The Jonas Brothers dropped "Happiness Begins" recently which is why "Sucker" is back in the top ten at number eight with a four place rise.
"SOS" by Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc remains steady at number nine while falling two places to number ten is "3 Nights" by Dominic Fike . These are the two songs that are most likely to fall out of the top ten when Taylor Swift and Drake inevitably turn up next week. (rolls eyes)
Gains
The biggest gain of the week was a case of continued momentum with "Piece of My Heart" by Meduza and Goodboys whch jumped from 23 to 14.
OneRepublic are up six places to 30 with "Rescue Me" because the charts aren't already filled with enough generic pop music as it is.
Miley Cyrus's "Mother's Daughter" jumped four places to 21 while "Johnny Run Away" by Tones and I is up four to 13.
Losses
The good news is that the ephemerally irritating "I'm So Tired" by Lauv and Troye Sivan was the biggest loser of the week dropping to 45 from 34.

Another song I am kind of happy to see going is the desperate attempt to copy the "Sweet But Psycho" formula by Ava Max with "So Am I" down ten to number 40.
Halsey continues to have a nightmare on the chart right now with "Nightmare" down 6 slots to 27.
Drop Outs
We lost some huge songs this week with "Sweet but Psycho" by Ava Max, "Without Me" by Halsey. "Lovely" by Khalid and Billie Eilish (again" and "Walk me Home" by Pink. Both "Sweet but Psycho" and "Without Me" should make the year end list comfortably.
We also lost "Just Us" by DJ Khaled and SZA which is not a surprise considering the massive tantrum that DJ Khaled continues to throw with "Homicide" by Logic feat. Eminem and "Summer Days" by Martin Garrix feat. Macklemore and Patrick Stump following it out of the top 50.
New Entries
So Drake is back on the ARIA singles chart but he has teamed up with Chris Brown for a song from Brown's upcoming new album "Indigo" called "No Guidance" and it's the highest debut of the week at number 17. Looks like the music industry wants to continue to rehab Chris Brown's career which is unfortunate to say the least.
We have another posthumous song from Avicii charting courtesy of rthe release of "TIM" with "Heaven" in at number 20.
The Chainsmokers have finally landed a song from rheir new project "World War Joy" (shit album name) teaming up with Bebe Rexha for "Call You Mine" at number 32.
While I am still furious Australia did Guy Sebastian a dirty with the excellent "Before I Go" noy being a hit, his new single "Choir" has debuted at number 39 and it looks like it might genuinely have some traction moving forward.
Tones and I have landed a second song on the ARIA singles chart with "Dance Monkey" in at number 43.
The new entry which left me stunned was that of American country artist Luke Combs whose single "Beer Never Broke My Heart" has entered at 44 which is due to the release of his recent EP. I kind of hope "Even Though I'm Leavin'" will also chart sme point...much better than "Beer Never Broke My Heart"
Finally because not one new song involving Chris Brown is enough. "Haute" by Tyga feat. J Balvin and Chris Brown turns up at 50. Gross.
Next week is going to be a wild one with Taylor Swifr and Drake expected to swing into the top ten and who knows what other chaos will unfold, find out on Saturday at 5pm.

Charting 1996: 16th June: Fastlove faces challengers and a Mission Impossible new arrival
Its been quite the busy week with a whole slew of new entries and plenty of movement within the top ten including what appears to some challengers to our current number one which remains "Fastlove" by George Michael for a fourth week and really its kind of a surprise that it is still at number one given it's sales are starting to decline.
The challenge for number one is going to come from The Tony Rich Project's "Nobody Knows" which climbed two places to reach number two, the song has some solid momentum behind it but whether it can reach number one is the big question.
What might not be challenging for number one is "X-Files Theme (Version Dance)" by Triple X which dropped to number three as "Nobody Knows" muscled its way past.
The biggest mover within the top ten this week is Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me" which made a six place leap to number four as it has some serious radio right now - adult contemporary stations especially. I can see this making a play for number one.
Gina G arrives in the top 5 with "Ooh Aah....Just A Little Bit" up two places this week at number 5.
Max-A-Million stays where it is at number five with "Sexual Healing" while the result of all that sexual healing "Children" by Robert Miles falls two places to number seven.

We have a new entry at number nine courtesy of the new Mission Impossible movie thanks to U2 members Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen with "Theme from Mission: Impossible"

ARIA singles chart top ten/Chart Review: June 9th. Katy Perry nabs a top ten debut
Let's call it now, hey? "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X will be the number one biggest hit of the year not just in Australia but around the world, it's spending its 11th week at number one in the US and in Australia, it's spending its seventh week at number one on the back of huge digital sales figures even though streaming has fallen away.
"I Don't Care" by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber remains at number two despite streaming gains and sales that are still strong...just not strong enough to take it past "Old Town Road" but strong enough to keep "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish at number three where streaming is still good but sales are starting to fall.
Kind of wish everything was starting to fall away for "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi which remains at number four with good sales and streaming but needs a significant lift to rise past the three songs ahead of it.
Into the top five this week is the second of the Ed Sheeran songs, "Cross Me" feat. Chance The Rapper and PNB Rock. A song that is pretty mediocre if I am to be honest but it's here because its sales and streams were at least good enough to knock "If I Can't Have you" by Shawn Mendes back to number six.
At number seven, we have a new entry to the chart from Katy Perry with "Never Really Over" and considering this might be her best song since "Teenage Dream", it's not a surprise she debuted this high even with the fact that yes her influence has waneed a little in recent years not helped by the "Witness" era.
Slipping one place down to number eight is "3 Nights" by Dominic Fike and back to number nine from eight is "SOS" by Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc.
Finally returning to the top ten is "Sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee upr ten one place to number ten.
Gains
The
Biggest gain of the week belongs to Tones and I's "Johnny Run Away" which went from 22 to 16 which is great news because it's a pretty damn good song.
What isn't so good is the four place boost for the "The London" By Young Thug feat. J Cole and Travis Scott to 13. Seriously?
Losers
The biggest loser of the week was the tantruming DJ Khaled song "Just Us" feat. SZA which fell from 33 to number 50. DJ Khaled was pissed this week that his album "Father of Asahd" didn't debut at number one on the US Billboard 200, it was held off number one by "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" by Billie Eilish. All I'll say is when the album features some really lazy sampling, guests not really adding much to songs and no single release pre the album after "No Brainer" left the chart, you kind of got what you asked for, Khaled.
The only other song to lose big was "Homicide" by Logic and Eminem which stumbled from 29 to 38.
Drop Outs
The biggest drop out of the week belongs to Billie Eilish with :"Wish You Were Gay" gone. Also out are "Paradise" by Bazzi, "Carry On" by Kygo and Rita Ora and continuing a bad week for Logic, "Isis" by Lucas Joyner and Logic exited.
New Entries
Katy Perry snagged the biggest debut of the week inside the top ten at number seven with "Never Really Over" as mentioned earlier.
At 25, is "Mother's Daughter" by Miley Cyrus, a song from her widely panned "She is Coming" EP.
Aussie youngster Ruel is at number 40 with "Painkiller". A good song that deserves to be a it if I am going to be hpnest.
Finally the worst of the new entries from YG with "Go Loko" feat. Tyga and Jon Z.
Next week probably Jonas Brothers with a small album bomb and that new song from Chris Brown and Drake...joy...ARIA charts update on Saturday at 5pm AEST.

Unfortunately regaining some lost ground is "Sexual healing" by Max-AMillion which jumped one place to number six.
Gina G is one of two new arrivals to the top ten as "Ooh Aah...Just Little Bit" climbed four places to number seven as it continues to ride solid sales.
Former chart toppers OMC have taken a 3 place slide with "How Bizarre" back to number eight while "Ironic" by Alanis Morisette does similar back to number nine.
Rounding out the top ten is the second of the new arrivals to the top ten with Celine Dion's US chart topper "Because You Loved Me" climbing three places to number ten.

ARIA Singles Chart top ten/Chart Review: 3rd June. The new entries turn to junk.
So yeah this one is a little late this week, part of the reason being I have been ridiculously busy and also sick which hasn't helped things but when I looked at the chart this week, the more I was convinced it was not a good week but not because of what is in our top ten so let's start there where Lil Nas X spends a sixth week at number one with "Old Town Road" but while it has hit the top in digital sales, its streams have started to slow and that isn't a good sign for it moving forward.
Its definitely susceptible to "I Don't Care" by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber ( a song that gets more mediocre with every listen) which has strong streaming right now and looks set to take number one should "Old Town Road" continue to slip. We're not done talking about Ed Sheeran in the top ten either.
All this places "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish in a weird zone at number three because while it's streaming is still good, it's really not got the margins it needs to challenge.
Lewis Capaldi is up one place to number four with "Someone You Loved" because of the release of the album last week, it effectively swapped with "If I Can't have you" by Shawn Mendes" which went back to number five.

Breaking into the top ten at number nine is Tyler the Creator's "Earfquake" which is a big surprise and Tyler's first top ten hit in Australia. Not bad going!.
Finally former chart topper "Sucker" by the Jonas Brothers slips two places to number ten although I do expect that the album release will help it regain a bit of lost ground in the weeks ahead.
Gains
The biggest gain of the kweek goes to "Piece of Your Heart" by Meduza and Goodboys which rose from 37 to 26.

The one return is for Kygo and Rita Ora's song "Carry On" which is back at number 43
Losers
Lots of big losers this week mostly for songs that will make the year end list anyway but the biggest fall went to Logic and Eminem's "Homicide" which fell from 16 to 29.
Songs that fell hard but will make the year end list regardless: "Dancing with a Stranger" by Sam Smith and Normani fell to number 40 down 11 places and "Sweet but Psycho" by Ava Max down ten places to 50.
While there were also big falls for Pink's "Walk Me Home" down eight places to 36, "Wish You Were Gay" by Billie Eilish which fell ten places to 46.
Sadly the majority of these are good songs.
Drop outs
The drop outs saw the rest of the Tyler the Creator mini album bomb drop out with "I think", "Igor's Theme" and "Running Out of time" all gone.
Also gone is the absolute junk that is "Who do You Love" by The Chainsmokers and 5 Seconds of Summer but that will likely make the year end list...sadly but in better news what won't is that the utter crap that is "Earth" by Lil Dicky is also gone...good riddance.
"Stay Awake" by Dean Lewis also made it's exit after a brief appearance in the top ten while the only song I am sad to see gone is "Waiting" by Kian.
New Entries

Its definitely susceptible to "I Don't Care" by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber ( a song that gets more mediocre with every listen) which has strong streaming right now and looks set to take number one should "Old Town Road" continue to slip. We're not done talking about Ed Sheeran in the top ten either.
All this places "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish in a weird zone at number three because while it's streaming is still good, it's really not got the margins it needs to challenge.
Lewis Capaldi is up one place to number four with "Someone You Loved" because of the release of the album last week, it effectively swapped with "If I Can't have you" by Shawn Mendes" which went back to number five.
The biggest new entry of the week comes from Ed Sheeran who has teamed up with Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock for "Cross Me" debuting at number six with strong streaming. Have to ask if this song's release will affect the chances of "I Don't Care" going back to number one.
It pushed Dominic Fike's "3 Nights" back to number seven and "SOS" by Avicii and Aloe Blacc to number eight although I expect the latter will get a boost from the Avicii album release.

Charting 1996: Surprise new number one as two American rock bands debut
Well this week presented a surprise I didn't see coming at all, we have a new and somewhat unexpected number one in the form of heavy metal/thrash metal band Metallica with "Until It sleeps" landing landing number one on the chart, now how long it stays there is an open question because right behind it at number two is last's week's number one "Fastlove" by George Michael and it is still a very strong contender to return to the top spot.
Triple X remains steady at number 3 with "X-Files Theme (Version Dance) while moving up three places from last week is The Tony Rich Project's "Nobody Knows" which is awesome to see because yeah, that song is excellent.
Now there's a fair bit of movement down lower in the top ten and we'll get to the reason why soon.
Former chart topper "How Bizarre" by OMC takes a three place dip to number 5 as it slowly falls away, it took "Ironic" by Alanis Morrisette down two places to number six and "Sexual Healing" by Max-A-Million down two places to number seven,
Up two places is "Children" by Robert Miles to number eight - I really don't understand the appeal of that song but if you like it...all the power to you, it did push La Bouche's "Sweet Dreams (Ola Ola e)" down one place to number nine.
Finally there's a new arrival to the top ten and one that's been quietly making its up the chart..."Runaway" by The Corrs up one place to number ten.
Gains
Continued momentum looks to be the case for "Ooh Aah (Just A little Bit)" by Gina G up eight places to number 11.
Celine Dion has leaped from 21 to 13 with her US chart topper "Because You Loved Me". I expect to see this one in the top ten soon.
The Presidents of the United States of America have another top 20 hit with "Kitty" rising from 27 to 19.
In good news for Aussie band Powderfinger "Pick You Up" jumped eight places to 26.
Finally Mark Snow's "The X-Files" jumped from 41 to 34 and looks like it might follow our current X-Files related top ten hit.
Losers
So all the commotion in the top ten was triggered by the sudden falls of "Missing" by Everything But the Girl from 6 to 12 and "California Love" by 2Pac feat. Dr Dre from 9 to 15.
Apart from that though "Wtrap Me Up" by Alex Party is slowly starting to unravel as it spirals down to 21 from 15.
The Pet Shop Boys single "Before" might be starting to look at after as it tumbled nine places to 36/
Ace of Base's "Beautiful Life" slips from 32 to 40 while "Got It Goin' On" by Human Nature took a hit to 41.
Finally a song safely on the year end list is Tracey Chapman's "Give Me One Reason" wich is a good thing considering the song tripped down 9 places to 49.
New Entries
So the biggest new entry of the week belongs to The Smashing Pumpkins as they enter the chart at number 28 with "Tonight, Tonight".
A couple of new bands have arrived on the chart this week and we begin with a band from Texas that formed in 1981 called the Butthole Surfers, they've debuted on the ARIA Chart with a song called "Pepper" at number 42.
Seems to be the week for American rock bands because hailing from California is a female fronted band No Doubt and their debut single "Just A Girl" has landed at number 46.
Finally a British duo called PJ and Duncan have entered the chart at number 47 with a cover of a Monkees 1967 song called "Stepping Stone".
